Mountain, lake & glacier - these are the extensive holiday themes of the region. The indisputable centre of your holiday, whether ski holiday in winter or family holiday in summer, is the town of Zell am See. It is the centre of everything to do with lake, mountain and glacier. The town of Zell am See is located at the base of the mountain and at the shores of the lake in close proximity to the glacier. On a peninsula, formed by the Schmittenbach stream, the town protrudes into Lake Zell and clearly states: "Here I am and you must come here if you want to enjoy your holiday in the Zell am See-Kaprun region."
From market to town
Zell am See has been in existence for centuries. Only a market in the 19th century, the town was originally called "Zelle im Pinzgau", probably because it spreads along the shores of Lake Zell and is the indisputable centre of the entire region; today, especially in terms of tourism. The triumph of tourism in Zell am See was marked by the building of the railway through Zell am See in 1875. This transport connection opened an important link between the town and the region, widely known as a gem of relaxation between mountain and lake. The town has been bearing the name "Zell am See" since 1810 and is home to approx. 9.900 habitants today. Many more "temporary" habitants are accommodated by the town during the touristic seasons in summer and in winter. For a long time, winter sport and especially ski holidays were the main reasons for travelling to Zell am See. The clear air and in particular the crystal-clear water of Lake Zell and the quality of the drinking water made the town at Lake Zell more and more popular with summer holiday makers.
From lake to mountain ...
... and return takes just a few minutes. As already said, Zell am See is located directly at the shores of Lake Zell and offers a wide range of possibilities to enjoy a summer at a lake in the Salzburger Land. Swimming beaches, open-air pools, the lakeside promenade and all kinds of water sport let you quickly forget everyday life. The legendary Schmittenhohe cable car is only few minutes away from the shores of the lake. The modern gondola in Porsche design takes you uphill to the local mountain - the Schmittenhohe. The town of Zell am See nestles up to the slopes of the Schmittenhohe, thus providing a wide range of possibilities for ski sport in winter and mountain sport and hiking in summer. The ski pistes lead you directly from the mountain into town and the hiking trails start more or less behind the pedestrian zone. The view from the Schmittenhohe to the town of Zell am See and Lake Zell is legendary and for many the main reason to spend their holiday here again and again!

Zell am See is not only a natural region in the vicinity of the lake and the mountain, it is also stands for urban flair, sophisticated shopping experience and culinary highlights. The town has a long history. The many beautiful old houses tell about the town's history. The occassional look up while strolling through the town is definitely worth it. The town is a real shopping and culinary experience. Modern shops alternate with traditional souvenir shops and department stores. Traditional hospitality and modern restaurants go hand in hand here. International culinary delights meet traditional cuisine and local products here and will delight your senses. Après ski and nightlife introduce you to quaint huts at the mountain and you meet like-minded people in trendy bars in town. Good food, a drink in good company, drifting along and sampling the best the region offers; this is the motto for your holiday in Zell am See.
This historic medieval town, with its traffic free area offers a great night life. The 120km of ski slopes are ideally suited to most South African skiers with varied slopes that give easy access to mountain hut / restaurants and a good modern lift system. As a beginner your ski lessons will be held at the middle station so you get to experience the mountain atmosphere from day one. A must for any Zell trip is an afternoon at Schnap- Hans Bar at the top of Schmittenhohe (2000m) where you can see your neighbours in Saalbach, or gaze across to wonderous Kitzsteinhorn glacier: (word on the street is that there might be a connection for Zell and Saalbach may be on the cards – let’s hold thumbs for this move.) When the sun goes down and the slopes empty the bars, restaurants and clubs come to life keeping with a ski Austrian atmosphere mixed with the international guest flavours, no trip to Zell is complete without a visit to Gin House and Crazy Daisy.

After a long journey there is nothing better than a pre organized dinner. No hassles, no cooking, walk in eat & off to bed or the nearest bar, the choice is yours. Here you can meet the resort representatives & find out the plan for the next day. Dinner includes: Three course meal. No drinks. Dress: Casual.
Tobogganing & Dinner
Dressed in ski gear, tonight we meet Gin house for another drink (own account) from where we are transported by taxi to Kohlschnait the venue for our tobogganing & tubing evening. On arrival for those with enough courage the tubing track awaits you. After tubing a hearty dinner awaits you before we make our way down the toboggan run. Dinner includes: Three course meal.
Dress: Ski Gear (NO ski Boots)
Farewell Dinner
At the end of a great holiday we have our farewell dinner & prize giving evening. This is a chance to say goodbye to new freinds and celebrate the end of a great holiday. Dinner includes: Three course meal. No drinks.
Dress: Casual.
