The Zanzibar Archipelago consists of two main islands, Pemba and Unguja, and about 50 smaller islets. The cottages are set atop a cove on the beautiful beach of Nungwi in the very North of Zanzibar Island.
This lodge offers a range of accommodation for the discerning traveler, from our small, cozy Standard Cottages to well-appointed Deluxe Rooms, romantic honeymoon accommodation and four apartments that are suitable for families and groups.
Its proximity to Mnemba Atoll makes it one of the best spots for snorkeling, game fishing and diving. A one hour’s drive from Zanzibar Town or the airport on a good road will bring you to Mnarani Beach Cottages. We gladly arrange for you to be met on arrival in Zanzibar or picked up at any other hotel.
The swimming pool is an all-time favorite with guests and a free internet service at our library is available in the library. There is a library with over 1000 novels mainly in English, you are welcome to borrow or swap books free of charge.

Restaurant
Zanzibar is famed for its fresh seafood and variety of spices - both feature prominently on Mnaranis restaurant menu. Each morning the kitchen team provide a buffet style breakfast, with homemade bread and pastries, (just ask how you would like your eggs).
A small lunch menu is available with local dishes as well as pizzas and sandwiches.
The wholesome evening meal alternates between a fixed menu with a choice of dishes or a buffet which includes starters, salads as well as homemade Swahili dishes, international and vegetarian options. Don’t forget to try the resident Pastry Chef's desserts.
You may also have the privilege of being introduced to Mnaranis resident bush babies who love to eat at their own tree table in front of the restaurant most evenings. On Sundays, Mnarani invites it’s guests to a BBQ at the side of the pool or on the beach depending on the tides. It is the highlight of the week and not to be missed as it brings everyone together.
If you require a special diet, have a yearning to taste other recipes, want to organize a special celebration, just let the Head Chef know. He and his team will do their best to accommodate you.
Bar
The bar and lounge area are set at one end of Mnaranis wooden deck overlooking the Indian Ocean. Relax and while away your time, sipping your choice of drink from our fine selection of wines, cocktails, and freshly prepared fruit juices, whilst listening to calming music and watching the waves.
The bar area includes a pool table, darts and satellite TV for your enjoyment. Try your hand at Bao, the traditional Zanzibari board game – our team will be happy to show you how it’s done!
Located directly on the beach, cooled by the sea breeze and with its own meditative wave sound system, Mnarani's Spa location and massage team will help you get rid of the tension that was created by the pressures of everyday life.
Choose from locally prepared natural aromatic oils; essences of cinnamon, lemongrass, jasmine or clove oil to help you relax and revitalize. The therapeutic treatments available at the Cinnamon spa are:
Access to the beach
Depending on the moon and the daily tides, you can access the beach in front of the hotel from the Mnarani deck area. Take a leisurely stroll to the Nungwi Dhow shipbuilding yard, beach-comb or join the local women and children as they search the shallows of the reef for small fish and octopus. Remember to bring your beach shoes with you.
Snorkeling
The Nungwi peninsula boasts magnificent diving and snorkeling sites, most notably the famed Mnemba Atoll. A full day trip on Mnarani’s own traditional dhow, ‘My Lady’, will take you there for an extensive forage into the tropical underwater world, swimming and sunbathing on a remote and picturesque beach. You can choose from two favorite snorkeling spots – one in shallow and one in deeper water.
Swim with the dolphins (although their presence can’t be guaranteed) or go for a spot of fishing and catch your own lunch. Don’t worry if you don’t catch a bite – we’ll buy from the local fishermen and set up a beach barbecue just for you!
Sunset Cruise
Sailing on a traditional Swahili dhow is a great experience in itself. Add the sunset, the gentle breeze, and the peace and calm out there in our azure waters… and it turns into an unforgettable holiday memory!
Kayaking
Paddling along the coastline in a kayak is a relaxing and fun way to explore your surroundings. There are double and single kayaks available; life jackets and shoes can be provided.
Game Fishing
The waters around the North of Zanzibar are teeming with marine life. If you feel like catching your own dinner, Mnarani offers both full (8h) and half-day (4h) deep sea fishing trips. Our boat carries a maximum of five passengers plus crew. It is fully equipped with two outboard engines, GPS, radio, fish finder, life jackets and first aid kit.
Fish caught by guests include; King Fish, Sail Fish, Blue Marlin and Yellow Fin Tuna.
PADI Scuba Diving
There are no diving facilities at Mnarani itself, but we work closely with a reputable certified dive center in the vicinity. We are more than happy to assist you with booking your dives or PADI courses.
Sailing
If you are an experienced Hobie cat 16 captain, you are welcome to hire Mnarani’s boat. If it’s your first time, one of our experienced staff can take you sailing to enjoy the breeze along the coast. Please note the sailing will depend on the sea condition.
Kite Surfing
From December to March you can enjoy the thrill of kite surfing in front of the hotel.
