Lengau Lodge - Limpopo

Lengau Lodge is a 4-star safari game lodge, situated in Grietjie Private Nature Reserve, part of Balule Nature Reserve. This reserve is situated in the Greater Kruger National Park and all animals can move freely through these reserves. Grietjie is known to home the Big Five and all other kind of animals, including hundreds of types of birds. The plot of the lodge has no fence, so all animals can visit the Lodge freely. We are only 30 minutes from Kruger National park, 20 minutes from Phalaborwa, 35 minutes from Hoedspruit and 1 hour drive to Tzaneen. We have the ambition to provide a true Safari feeling with maximum attention for our guests. That is the reason we have decided to offer only a limited number of beds. We provide facilities for 10 guests.

The Lodge has currently three Rondavels (rooms) for guests that each accommodate 2, a family room that accommodate 4, a restaurant, a beautiful swimming pool with shaded pool area and a building with a large viewing deck, from which one can look over the bush.

Restaurant – “Hippo”

In the restaurant building that is called “Hippo” we can provide you with tasteful breakfast and diner. Since the weather conditions are almost always excellent we can serve the meals outside as well as inside.

Viewing deck

On the first floor of the building we have created a very large viewing deck with a thatched roof on top of it. From this place you will have an enormous view over the bush and onto the waterhole. Without disturbing the animals, you will have a close look on them, because the animals usually come very close to the lodge.

The area around the lodge is equipped with a small electrified fence-cable to keep the elephants from coming too close to the buildings and to prevent them from drinking from the swimming pool. All other animals can roam freely throughout the entire plot and the rest of the reserve, all the way into the Kruger National Park. Therefore the lodge is not the best place for small children and we advice to bring only children form the age starting with 12 years.

Infinity swimming pool

The lodge has a magnificent swimming pool with a beautiful Lapa (relax area with seats and tables) shaded by a thatched roof, to relax and cool down from the sometimes hot African sun. You can enjoy your drinks, have a meal or just enjoy the view.

Wifi and gsm connection

You can of course make use of our internet connection via our free Wifi, which is available at all locations at the Lodge. The connection supports normal use of the internet. E-mail and all social media channels can be used. It depends on the network provider how your cell-phone connection will function, but we do have coverage most of the time for your mobile phone.

Safari Game Drive

The Grietjie Private Nature Reserve is a 3000 ha. large reserve and is part of the large Kruger National Park without any fences in between all participating Nature Reserves. Grietjie Reserve has about 100 plots, from which a couple have been equipped with lodging facilities. As visitor it is not allowed to drive around for game spotting. We will offer you the possibility to come with us on a safari game drive twice a day. We have licenses to provide safari game drives in a large part of Kruger National Park in an area of over 9.000 ha. During the safari game drives we will enjoy the daily surprise of all kind of possible animals like, impala, giraffes, buffalo, warthogs, zebra, kudu, waterbock, elephants, hypo’s, lions and many more. Not to forget of course the birds of all kind, colors and sizes!

Only 30 minutes drive from our reserve we have the Phalaborwa Gate, leading into The Kruger National Park. The distance allows for a day trip to this world class nature reserve, with a guarantee to encounter wild animals. We can organise a day trip for you or you can drive on your own.

Activities

The following items can be booked through Lengau Lodge, but are all subject to availability.

• Full day Kruger National Park visit, entering through Phalaborwa gate. Duration 10-12 hrs, including breakfast and lunch, prepared with traditional South African items, by the qualified FGASA field guide. She has lived many years in Letaba Rest camp and is highly familiar with KNP, offering guest the ultimate South African Safari experience
• Half day Kruger National Park visit, entering through Phalaborwa gate. Duration 6 hrs, including breakfast, prepared with traditional South African items, by the qualified FGASA field guide.
• 3-4 hrs cultural village visit, guided by a qualified FGASA field guide
• Boat safari on the Olifants River (on Wednesday, we offer the possibility to combine this with a traditional braai at the boat station along the river). The trip towards the boat station will be an hour safari game drive through the Balule Nature Game Reserve.
• Visit a venue that offers a large variety of Marula tree related products, and even participate in a workshop preparing your own skin product, based on the natural ingredients, harvest from the Marula tree nuts.
• Visit the local Gin distillery, combined with a gin tasting, as well as some other locally distilled drinks.
• Wine tasting on a magnificent viewing point on the premises of the Lodge, during an adjusted late afternoon safari game drive.
• Many different types of relaxing massages performed by certified local masseuses.
• Hot air balloon flight near the Drakensberg Mountains, (subject to good weather conditions)
• Helicopter flight of approximately 1 hr, flying over the area where Lengau Lodge is situated.
• Horse driving on a game farm, where many wild animals are roaming.
