Kuzuko Lodge known as the “Place of Glory”, is a malaria free Private Game Reserve situated in the greater Addo area, with the vision to combine conservation, job creation and social transformation.

Restaurant & Bar

The restaurant, bar and outdoor wooden deck offer spectacular views of the reserve below. Our fully inclusive package includes brunch, a light Karoo finger lunch as well as a 4-course dinner, which may be served in the restaurant or outdoor boma. A deck menu featuring light snacks, desserts and cocktails is available on request and will be charged at an additional cost. The Kuzuko’s kitchen takes pleasure in ensuring that all guests’ individual needs are catered for.

Ashia Cheetah Wilding and Release Program

Ashia, a world-class cheetah centre accredited by Fair Trade Tourism, is situated near Cape Town in South Africa’s Western Cape. Founded in 2016 to help prevent the further decline of wild cheetah populations and to increase their gene pool through captive-born animals, Ashia started the Wilding and Release Program mid 2018 in cooperation with Kuzuko Lodge (www.kuzuko.com), a 15,000 ha private game reserve in the greater Addo area, Eastern Cape. Thanks to Kuzuko’s dedicated and extremely versed wilding team, led by Reserve General Manager Gerhard de Lange, several captive born cheetahs have successfully been wilded and released within the Cheetah Metapopulation, coordinated by the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT).

Activities

Game drives

Game drives take place as the sun rises, during the afternoon and as the sun sets. Our experienced guides are sure to track and point out the many species of game that roam Kuzuko. With our nocturnal animals out and about, sunrise and sunset drives offer a very different view of the wild. Dependent on the time of your game drive, you can enjoy a complimentary cup of tea or coffee with home-made rusks, a snack and local beverage. Bottled water is complimentary with morning and afternoon drives.

Childrens programme

• Children are most welcome at Kuzuko Lodge. We cater for their every need with everything from child-friendly decks, kiddie menus and sleeper couches - for under twelves - to a special activity programme overseen by a dedicated game ranger.
• Our fun in the sun pack includes a bag, hat, insect repellent, sun block, bottled water and all the tools needed to enjoy our outdoor activities.
• Under 5’s can join our Tiny Tots programme and have fun at the outdoor jungle gym or enjoy building puzzles, colouring in or playing other fun games in a secure environment.
• All sorts of treasures are waiting to be discovered as 5 to 10-year-olds get up close and personal with the bugs, lizards, birds and other interesting inhabitants and plants at Kuzuko Lodge during a supervised Wilderness Ramble.
• Explore nature and the remnants of caves and Khoisan painting gallery. Memorise the paintings and redraw them using your paintbrush made from a local plant on return to the lodge. Minimum of 4 children - ages 8 to 14 years.
• Kids of all ages are welcome on a kids safari. This activity includes a fun activity backpack and goodies for under 10’s, however, all ages welcome to join in.

Nature walks

This walk is intended to provide guests with the freedom to explore the unique landscape and its natural fauna and flora with a ranger in an area where there are no Big 5 animals. Enjoy tails of the Karoo's delicate ecosystem as this 15,000 hectares reserve unfolds. During a morning Bush Walk you can expect to experience the Karoo up close.Giraffes may be encountered. All ages welcome.

Khoisan Cultural Exploration

At Kuzuko we believe that preserving cultural heritage is just as important as preserving our natural surroundings. As such, we are proud to provide guided walks where visitors can examine Khoisan rock paintings that are approximately 400 years old.

These ancient rock paintings are situated outside the main reserve on a 1,500 acre Educational Reserve. This area is stocked with non-dangerous game and forms a large part of our community conservation education component.

Medium fitness required. All ages welcome.

Cosmic safaris

The African sky comes alive as night falls over ‘the place of glory’. While they may be light years away, the heavenly bodies seem close enough to touch as Kuzuko offers some of the best stargazing in Africa. The trained game rangers trade their binoculars for laser pointers as they guide you through galaxies, pointing out stars, planets, moons and other astral bodies through the lodge’s eight-inch stargazing telescope. This uniquely exclusive activity offers the magical experience of viewing not just the majestic wild animals at the lodge, but also the glory of the mystical sky above the lodge.

Wild Cheetah Experience

While enjoying unique photo opportunities, guests are left in awe as they spend time within close proximity of these impressively aloof predators. An additional fee will be charged for this activity on behalf of the Kuzuko Foundation for Wildlife Rehabilitation.

Kuzuko Interpretive Centre

The Kuzuko Interpretive Centre houses historical artefacts, animal artistry representative of the smaller animals found in the reserve and information about the history of the Kuzuko reserve. This centre aims to educate guests and offer exciting insight into the history of our segment of the Karoo.
