Upon the discovery of the heart of the historic centre of Genoa, amongst its sumptuous buildings and flavours.

  • Via Garibaldi, Palazzo Rosso, House of Columbus, Porta Soprana
  • Ducal Palace, Imperial Palace, Ancient Port, Via San Lorenzo, Porticoes of Sotto Ripa

Taking a scenic route on the motorway along the coast of Riviera di Ponente, we will arrive in Genoa, glimpses of the sea and the Mediterranean scrubland included.
Skimming the port, we will admire Lanterna, which has always been a point of reference for seafarers, and we will continue, by coach, upon the discovery of the most interesting places within the city until we get to Castelletto, one of the oldest and aristocratic in Genoa which stands on the headland overlooking the historic centre.
From here one of the city's historic lifts will take us to the very centre, to the alleyways which Rubens described as "Europe's most beautiful roads": Via Garibaldi, better known as Strada Nuova. This pedestrian area includes some of Genoa's most sumptuous squares, built in the 1500s as residences for the most important noble families and which were restored to their original splendour for the occasion of "Genoa 2004".
At this stage, we will visit the Palazzo Rosso and Palazzo Imperiale (exclusive entry for Costa Cruises) followed by a delicious tasting session.
From this elegant alleyway, we will go onto a part of the city which historically connected it to the sea, passing by Porta Soprana, the House of Columbus, Via San Lorenzo, the Ducal Palace and the Ancient Port.
During the free time available until the end of the tour, we can trace the ancient and characteristic Porticoes of Sotto Ripa.

ITALY'S HIDDEN TREASURES - SEBORGA

We are taking a journey back in time in a fascinating village, where history is everywhere: Seborga, a self-proclaimed principality in the fifties, lives its special status daily, amidst characteristic alleyways, beautiful period palaces and panoramic views.

What we will see

  • Italian Riviera
  • Seborga
  • A stroll through the village
  • Church of San Martino and the Palazzo dei Monaci

What we will do

We leave Savona and make our way southwards along the splendid Italian Riviera, with impressive hills alternating with characteristic village, cliffs and famous beaches.
We arrive at our destination: the Ligurian village of Seborga, perched on the crest of a hill, from which you can enjoy panoramic views of the vegetation-covered mountains and beaches lapped by a turquoise sea.
We’ll stroll through the village alleyways, where the typical atmosphere of an ancient village reigns, amidst majestic houses, small gardens and historic monuments.
What makes Seborga even more fascinating is its unusual self-proclamation as principality in the fifties, even going as far as to elect a prince, although with merely symbolic functions.
The entire life of the village bears signs of this original status: along the streets we find cars with a special licence plate next to the official number plate, in the shops we can purchase using “Luigini” coins issued by the principality, and the houses fly the official, blue and white striped flag.
As we plunge into this haunting atmosphere, we cannot fail to admire the monuments in the town centre, such as the splendid Baroque church of San Martino or the Palazzo dei Monaci which, in the 17th century, housed the mint which issued the Luigini coins.

Once we reach La Cinta beach, we find ourselves facing the majestic limestone mountain peak of Tavolara Island.
After a series of fortuitous events, the tiny island seems to have been officially recognised as the smallest kingdom in the world, with a local man at the helm who declared himself the island's sovereign in front of King Carlo Alberto di Savoia in 1836.
Before the coach leaves to take us back to Olbia, we will have free time to bask in the sun on this long stretch of fine white sand, lapped by crystal-clear waters.

We will then continue onto Tempio Pausania, situated on a rocky plateau filled with cork oaks and vineyards, where we can catch a glimpse of the peak and jagged points of majestic Mount Limbara. A quick stop gives us chance to visit the town and admire the architecture characterised by sombre elegance.
Then it's back onto the coach for the next stage of our journey, a brief stop for photos in the town of Aggius, with its typical granite-rock landscape.
Climbing the peaceful hills again, Moon Valley appears before our eyes. The attractive plateau is reminiscent of a fantastic lunar landscape made from granite erratics produced by wind erosion. Letting our imaginations run wild, we will have fun trying to spot the shapes of humans or animals.

CISTERCIAN AND MEDIEVAL ITINERARY: POBLET MONASTERY AND MONTBLANC

A journey back in time to discover the history and traditions of Catalonia. Santa Maria de Poblet is the largest Cistercian monastery in Europe, while the ducal town of Montblanc still retains a magical medieval atmosphere.

What we will see

  • Espluga de Francoli, Monastery of Santa Maria de Poblet
  • Montblanc, city walls, church of Sant Miquel, Royal Palace, Placa Major, church of Santa Maria la Mayor

What we will do

With this itinerary we will discover the historical and artistic legacy of the Cistercian Order founded by the French abbot Bernard of Clairveaux. The austere spirit of this congregation led to the creation of a style during the transition period between Romanesque and Gothic. We will leave Tarragona by coach and head towards the interior through villages, mountains and the valley of the river Francolí.
We will arrive at Espluga de Francolí where we will visit the Monastery of Santa Maria de Poblet, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by a beautiful wood, it is the largest inhabited Cistercian monastery in Europe. It was founded in 1151 thanks to a generous donation from the Count of Barcelona Ramon Berenguer IV and played an important role in the life of the village, contributing towards its numerous estates, its recolonisation and the cultivation of the lands recently reconquered from the Muslims. It features a church (with various royal tombs) and a primitive cloister (12th-14th century), surrounded by various rooms and buildings from various eras up to the 18th century including the Abbot's Palace, the chapels of Sant Jordi and Santa Caterina, the Royal Palace, the ancient cloister of Sant Esteve and the new sacristy. The monastery enjoyed the special protection of the Catalan kings until the early 19th century when the monks were forced to leave due to the laws of ecclesiastical condemnation. The monastery then fell into a state of abandonment until 1940 when it was reopened for worship and underwent a restoration project to return it to its former splendour.
At the end of this enjoyable monastery visit we will get back on the coach and head for the enchanting medieval village of Montblanc. The village with its impressive walls, 1.7 km long and one of the best-preserved examples in Catalonia, maintains the medieval atmosphere of a place that was once the residence of kings and knights. Montblanc was at the height of its splendour during the reign of James the Conqueror. From the church of Sant Francesc outside the walls, we will arrive at Saint George's Gate where, according to legend, Saint George, the patron saint of Catalonia, killed the dragon. Within the walls the guide will introduce us to the Romanesque church of Sant Miquel, the Royal Palace, Placa Major and the church of Santa Maria la Mayor in Gothic style with a Baroque facade (visit of the exterior). During the visit to Montblanc we will admire the lifestyle of the locals, the traditional shops and the relaxing, peaceful atmosphere of the streets of this extraordinary ducal village.

RELAXATION AND FUN IN A CATAMARAN

A fabulous catamaran, a DJ at our disposal, room to dance and lots of occasions to make new friends - this is a true Mediterranean “fiesta”!

  • Swim in the sea and relax

On board, we will meet other people wanting to have just as much fun as us and the party will truly come to life - the DJ will get the atmosphere going with the latest hits and an entertainer will teach us the best dance routines. We can meet new people and feel part of the famous movida.
If music and dancing is not enough, you can take a refreshing dip in the blue Mediterranean waters or take a break and sunbathe.
